Toyota Launches Ultra-Exclusive GR Yaris Special Editions via Digital Lottery
Toyota Gazoo Racing is raising the stakes for hot hatch enthusiasts in Japan. The automotive giant has officially opened application lines for two of its most exclusive and track-focused creations to date: the GR Yaris Morizo RR and the GR Yaris Sébastien Ogier 9x World Champion Edition. Production is strictly limited, with only 100 units of each model scheduled to leave the factory. To secure a chance at owning one of these highly coveted machines, prospective buyers must submit their entry through Toyota's dedicated GR smartphone application.
The window of opportunity for these rally-inspired masterworks is incredibly narrow. The lottery application process runs from May 27 through June 9, with the lucky 200 winners set to be announced on July 1. Delivery of the actual vehicles is scheduled to begin in early August. Naturally, this level of exclusivity demands a substantial financial investment. The track-focused Morizo RR carries a price tag of ¥9,000,000 (approximately $56,500 USD), while the WRC-themed Ogier 9x Edition is priced slightly lower at ¥8,450,000 (around $53,000 USD). This represents a massive premium over the standard Japanese-market GR Yaris, which ranges between ¥3,617,200 and ¥5,882,200 ($22,700 to $36,900 USD).
The Morizo RR: Born From the Nürburgring
First showcased at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon, these special variants represent the peak of performance for the current generation GR Yaris. The Morizo RR is directly inspired by the personal preferences of Akio Toyoda himself, incorporating lessons learned from grueling 24-hour endurance races at the legendary Nürburgring. This version comes packed with unique enhancements designed to maximize driver engagement:
- Custom Handling: Bespoke suspension tuning and recalibrated electric power steering.
- Morizo Mode: A unique 4WD calibration that locks the front-to-rear power delivery into an even 50:50 distribution.
- Aggressive Aerodynamics: A carbon-fiber-rich body kit featuring a distinctive front splitter, a vented performance hood, revised side skirts, and an adjustable rear spoiler.
- Distinct Styling: Finished in an exclusive Gravel Khaki paint, complemented by matte-bronze 18-inch forged BBS alloy wheels and contrasting yellow brake calipers.
- Premium Cabin: An interior wrapped in luxury Ultrasuede, complete with yellow contrast stitching, a serialized build plaque, and Morizo's signature gracing the windshield.
The Sébastien Ogier 9x World Champion Edition: Celebrating WRC Royalty
For those looking for a direct link to World Rally Championship success, the Sébastien Ogier 9x World Champion Edition offers a different kind of performance. Rather than using the custom chassis changes of the Morizo RR, this model retains the standard car's suspension and steering settings but gains unique drivetrain options. The highlight is the custom "Seb Mode," which biases torque distribution to a 40:60 rear-wheel split, alongside a specialized Morizo mode calibrated specifically for loose gravel.
Visually, the Ogier Edition pays homage to French racing heritage. The car is equipped with the factory Aero Performance Package and finished in a menacing Gravity Black exterior paint. Matte-black BBS wheels, bright blue brake calipers, and subtle French tricolor accents on the front grille emphasize its high-performance pedigree. Inside, passengers are greeted by tricolor upholstery stitching, a specialized mechanical vertical handbrake lever, and a dashboard plaque bearing Ogier’s signature and the "9x World Champion" designation.
High-Output Powertrains and Toyotas Motorsport Legacy
Under the hood, both machines share the same potent turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine. This powerplant pumps out an impressive 300 horsepower (224 kW / 304 PS) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. Interestingly, Toyota has split the transmission choices to match each car's unique character. The Morizo RR relies on a lightning-quick eight-speed automatic gearbox, while the Ogier 9x Edition remains true to rally roots with a traditional six-speed manual shifter.
For fans who miss out on the digital sweepstakes, Toyota is offering a small consolation. Highly detailed 1/43 scale miniature models of both the Morizo RR and the Ogier 9x Edition will be sold at select rally events and authorized retail outlets for ¥16,500 (around $104 USD).
